Deprecation Notice for Server-side Component of BlindMe

This deprecation notice was posted on 12 Feb. 2026.

The server-side component of BlindMe is deprecated at the time this notice is posted, and will be fully removed in the first BlindMe version targeting Minecraft 26.2.

This decision comes about due to the following reasons:

• The original intention of this feature being unfulfilled: putting together a SMP with friends with everyone forced to have in-game Blindness.
• Clearing mental space by reducing maintenance of mods: testing the server-side functionality requires significantly much more time than the client-side portion.
• Bygone passion for Minecraft: I am no longer interested in the long-term prospects for Minecraft due to many reasons. Writing mods for Minecraft no longer excites me and updating them feels like an obligation.
• Early access release of Hytale: Hytale offers a powerful server-side modding API that has the potential to help me build the server-side functionality of BlindMe which I always wished for, and I have much higher hopes with it.

BlindMe is a personal project without the expectation of fulfilling user demands. I made it to feel happier, more fulfilled, yet it no longer serves that purpose, thus I must make it hurt the least it can.

As of the time of writing of this notice, there are no known alternative mods to the author that enforce Blindness or Darkness on the server’s side on Minecraft 1.21.11. Server operators as thus encouraged to use a data pack or write one, either by giving players the Blindness status effect, or by using timelines.

The server operator’s manual will continue to be available.
